Teen Review: Blindsided by Priscilla Cummings

My name is Jenna. I go to a high school where I’m part of the marching band and the cheerleading squad. I’m pretty busy, but I always find time to read. I’m also very creative and I like doing little crafts out of random things I find.

Blindsided by Priscilla Cummings

How would you react if one day you were told that you are going to be blind? Natalie O’Reilly, fourteen years old, was told that she is going to lose all of her sight. As she got older, her eyesight has gotten progressively worse, but she never imagined that she would lose all of it.

Having to leave her high school, her friends, and her goat farm, (and favorite goat Nuisance) behind, she had to enroll in a school for the blind where she will learn Braille, how to use a cane, and also how to protect herself in dangerous situations.

Natalie has to deal with the internal struggle of denial and acceptance of what is to inevitably come. This novel gives a different and interesting perspective on what it truly feels like to become blind. This book was very eye-opening and I strongly recommend it!
