Zombies are technically dead, but zombie fiction, zombie games, zombie movies, zombie comics, and zombie booklists are alive and well. Pittsburgh loves zombies so much, we even have a zombie opera.
Next up: a zombie-themed Halloween party here at Main, just for teens.
Night of the Living READ!
Saturday, October 27, from 1-4
We’ll be applying monster makeup, making eyeball cakepops, trying out our Thriller dance moves (I learned mine from this tutorial, if you want to impress your friends by learning the whole thing), and more!

Rick Genest a.k.a. “zombie boy” is not invited, because he is not a teen. Sorry Rick.
The Walking Dead series was my entry to zombie lore. For me, the buckets of human body parts drama make the gory stuff worth sitting through with my eyes shut and ears covered. The equal parts apocalypse and dystopia don’t hurt, either.
What kinds of zombies do you like? Are you in the Romero cult? Just like anything gross? Classic horror buff? Do you keep your zombie on a leash, as is the case with the Pleasantville-esque Fido?
Even if you can’t make it to the party, you can come carve and pimp a pumpkin or check out one of these zombie reads…and if you happen to suffer, as I do, from a very real fear of the undead, I can promise* there will be no real zombies at the party.
*unless the zombie apocalypse comes, in which case, you’re on your own and I will be huddled under a table with a stash of canned goods.
