CLP-Main 3rd Annual Halloween Party: Costume Ideas

Thinking of coming to our Halloween Party on Saturday, October 31st, but have no idea what to wear?

Here are some costume ideas plucked from book covers and liner notes in the Teen space:

papertownsThe number one pick for this year’s Teens Top Ten is Paper Towns by John Green.   The book was released with two different covers, so you and a friend can go as Happy (yellow) Margo and Sad (dirty) Margo.

blue bloodsBlue Bloods, by Melissa De La Cruz, is the most popular book  series in our Teen collection.  You just need some make up for the vampire teeth marks on your neck.  Then you can cut a skyline out of some heavy-duty construction paper, and wrap it around your shirt.  Voila!  You’re a super-hot vampire socialite from New York!

bleachSpiky orange hair, flowing black and white robes, and a sword (well, we would prefer that you don’t bring a real sword to the library) – that’s all you need for your Bleach costume!  Enjoy yourself as everyone confuses you with Ichigo Kurosaki, the accidental grim reaper!

antiflagAnti-Flag is a hometown punk band, and one of the highest circulating artists in our collection. Find 3 friends, 4 mohawks, some dark jackets, dark jeans, and an American flag.

three_6_mafia-last_2_walkIs hip hop more your thing?  Three 6 Mafia‘s records are also extraordinarily popular here.  Grab some hoodies, sun glasses, and some baggy jeans.

batmanIn most cases, our most popular video games are also most popular something-elses.   Batman is a well circulating video game and graphic novel, V for Vendetta is a popular movie and graphic novel… you get the idea.  Batman might necessitate buying an actually costume, but hey, if you are a multi-media sensation, maybe it’s worth it.

p&pwithzombiesOk, so this is classified as an adult book, but what the heck, it’s Halloween, and time to turn convention upside down.  If you love 19th century fashion mixed with gory mayhem, this costume is for you.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is the Jane Austen classic, with zombies added.  You’ll need a vintage, frilly dress, some fake blood, and zombie make up.  Don’t forget to practice your zombie stare for the undead version of Mark Darcy!

Happy Costuming!!

P.S. While we’re thinking about horrifying things for Halloween, remember that the library is planning on closing branches and cutting staff.  Fight the horror and advocate to save our libraries!

Search on facebook for the group “Save our Pittsburgh Libraries” to find out about rallies, petitions, and other efforts to help stop the library closures and funding cuts.
