After 600 Issues Wonder Woman Changes Clothes

You know Wonder Woman, right?  Flies an invisible plane?  Carries the “Lasso of Truth”?  Super-powered Amazon warrior who deflects bullets with her bracelets and beats the living snot out of dudes on the regular?  Yes, that Wonder Woman.

Well, if you know the legendary DC comics heroine Wonder Woman, you probably know that she’s been around almost as long as Superman and Batman and that she’s almost always worn a pretty impractical outfit when fighting crime.

Well, that all changed this week, when brand new Wonder Woman scribe J. Michael Straczynski debuted Wonder Woman’s new duds in issue #600 (on sale now at your favorite comic book store!).

Still skin-tight, but now more practical, Wonder Woman’s new crime-fighting gear is seen as a much-needed update.  Straczynski had this to say about the change: “If you’re going to make a statement about bringing Wonder Woman into the 21st century, you need to be bold and you need to make it visual. I wanted to toughen her up, and give her a modern sensibility.”

Always a feminist icon (even appearing on the cover of the  inaugural issue of Gloria Steinem‘s Ms. Magazine), Wonder Woman’s been kicking butt in the “boy’s club” of superhero comics since World War II.

So, what do you think of the new costume?  Do you miss the “star-spangled” bloomers?  Whatever your opinion, be sure to check out CLP’s great collection of Wonder Woman graphic novels!
