Playstation Network got you down? Good news!

In mid-April, Sony’s PlayStation Network went down…hard. After a week of pesky “this service is temporarily unavailable” and “under maintenance” messages, Sony announced that they had been hacked (like the 1995 film Hackers, but for real and minus Fisher Stevens).

Not only that, but the hacker most-likely got away with tons of users’ personal information: usernames, passwords, addresses, and even credit card numbers of 77 million gamers worldwide!

Nearly a month later, the service is still down…but there is finally good news! Sony has announced a Customer Appreciation Program allowing PlayStation 3 and PSP owners to download full games FOR FREE!

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

In addition, users will be permitted to rent movies, download free PlayStation Home items, and more.

If you’re a serious gamer, the last month has probably been a bit of a bummer, but this news should give you a little hop in your step once again. (Just don’t stay inside TOO much once the rain stops.)

Has Sony done enough to make it up to PSN users?
