Teen Review- Sleepover

Hi! My name is Adia.  I am in 11th grade at North AlleghenySenior High School.  I enjoy reading and I have two cats.

sleepoverDon’t let the poster and title of this movie fool you. Sleepover is one hardcore film about four girls who go on a scavenger hunt in order to gain the most coveted prize of one’s high school experience- a lunch spot at the fountain. Now, my school doesn’t have a fountain (though that would be really cool) but everyone can relate in some way to this goal. It often seems shallow- the need to “be cool” or “fit in”- but Sleepover is not about a deep look into our teen souls, it is a fun movie that you should be watched for solely that reason. If you’re looking for a movie that doesn’t require much thought and has the perfect amount of spice girls songs and feather boas, this feel-good film is definitely worth a chance! Plus, it has Alexa Vega in it, and who didn’t (or doesn’t) love Spy Kids?

The competition that surrounds the scavenger hunt may not get your heart racing, but it will definitely get you laughing, whether it’s from purposeful humor or the general ridiculousness of it all. (Steve Carrell also plays a bit of a role, if the general excitement this movie clearly induces is not enough to give it chance). This film is especially fun to watch with a group of friends. Sleepover may not be Oscar award winning, but it is definitely a win…for which scavenger hunt team? You’ll just have to watch to find out.
